“In the depth of winter, I finally learned that within me there lay an invincible summer.” (Albert Camus)
For many people winter is a drag. It’s dark, gloomy and brrr, chilly. It’s our turn for this interesting season in the Southern Hemisphere at the moment, and here in New Zealand things can get very cold, wet and dismal. Our faces become paler and a little less bright, tempers shorten and there’s a general grumpiness in the air.
Yes, life is better when the sun shines and we all enjoy longer days and brighter smiles but there’s something about winter that is also beautiful, wondrous and magical.
It’s a contemplative time too. The season allows you to reflect, draw inwards and conserve energy. Winter forces you to cocoon yourself, and we all know what comes out of that incredible process in nature …beautiful butterflies and dramatic moths.
Whatever season you are in now, let’s celebrate the uniqueness and wonder of each one. Acknowledge the seasons for the lessons they give and the moments they create.
Approached positively, winter is the best time for thinking, planning and spinning good stories. Once it has moved on, you can spread your wings and fly, buoyed by the dreams and aspirations nurtured in winter’s cold embrace.
I’m looking forward to it. Are you?
Take care and be kind to each other
