Reflecting on flexible thinking

“Freedom and happiness are found in the flexibility and ease with which we move through change.”
Gautama Buddha
We humans don’t do well with change and uncertainty, and we have that now in spades!
We don’t know what is going to happen in the future, and that is scary. It seems to me that the most helpful behaviour we should be striving for during these chaotic times is flexibility.
Becoming more flexible in the way I think about things has been a lifelong journey.
It is a struggle between wanting to be in control of everything that can affect my life, and letting go of those things that are outside of my control.
Psychological flexibility lives alongside self-compassion as well, and as you cut yourself more slack, there is a natural softening and yielding of attitudes and expectations.
This, in itself can lead to more contentment and acceptance of the vagaries of life, and all the ebbs and flows that go with it.
